Katie’s passion for massage and bodywork began 18 years ago while teaching in a rural town in Thailand where she experienced the healing power of touch. Upon returning to the US, she received extensive training and became certified in Orthopedic Massage Therapy (Career Networks Institute of CA) and in Manual Lymphatic Drainage (Upledger Institute). In Katie’s pursuit to help empower people to heal themselves and create a deeper mind-body connection, she discovered Yamuna Body Rolling (YBR) and became a Certified YBR Instructor. She also holds a certification in Yamuna Foot Fitness. Katie is committed to providing the highest standard of therapeutic movement, healing, wellness, education and injury prevention. Katie has lived in Durango for 12 years. When she isn’t massaging, body rolling or doing Foot Fitness you can find her on hiking trails, ski slopes, cooking up a storm in the kitchen and spending time with her husband and her dog Tilly.
Yamuna Body Rolling is a self-care technique practiced on 6-to-10 inch balls. Working with the body’s own natural logic and order we roll to release soft tissue, stimulate bones, and decompress joints to free restrictions throughout the whole body.
Yamuna Foot Fitness uses specially designed props called foot wakers and specialized routines to restore healthy foot function, enhance flexibility and strength, and to heal foot/ankle/knee problems.
All classes are held in the Smiley Building (1309 E 3rd Ave, Durango, CO) in Rm #24 on the 2nd floor.
Wear snug fitting comfortable workout clothes so the Yamuna balls don’t get rolled up in loose fabric. Yamuna Body Rolling and Foot Fitness classes are practiced without shoes on.
Bring your own mat to roll on and water.
You should expect to feel new body sensations. Sometimes this could feel like relaxation and sometimes this could feel like soreness. You are creating healthy changes and releasing stressful patterns in your body so you don’t want to feel the same way you did at the beginning of class.
Come to class as often as you can. At least once or twice weekly is recommended. The more you body roll and practice foot fitness, the better and more comfortable you feel in your body.
